Ladies Section

Welcome to the Ladies Section of Grim’s Dyke Golf Club which is proud of its long-standing reputation as a friendly club to beginners and experienced players alike.

LADIES AT GRIM’S DYKE

Ladies of any age and standard can join and are welcome to play at any time. As well as the option of arranging games, you can turn up on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons for the ‘roll ups’ where partners will be arranged. These days provide friendly competition and camaraderie.

In addition to regular Club competitions, teams are selected to play in friendly matches against local clubs both during the week and at weekends providing the opportunity to experience different golfing challenges and courses.

Annually a team is entered into the Inter Club Pearson Trophy as well as teams for the Middlesex Ladies Scratch, the Daily Mail Foursomes and the Annodata Knockout competitions giving plenty of scope for the more experienced golfers.

Competition Rules

COMPETITIVE GOLF

Club Knock-out Competitions

There are a number of Knockout competitions – played both as singles and as pairs. There are also a number of major individual medal and stableford competitions.

Inter Club Competitions

Members have opportunities to play against their clubs both at home and away. We play friendly matches against a number of local teams. These are relaxed matches and a chance to make new friends.

We enter a team in the Pearson competition where 7 a side singles matches are played against other teams in Middlesex on a league basis. The winning team then goes forward to a Middlesex finals day. The Middlesex winners go forward to an inter county finals day.

We enter a team in the Middlesex 5 a side competition. The members with the lowest handicaps play 5 a side singles scratch matches against other Middlesex teams on a league basis.

MIXED EVENTS

Several mixed competitions are held through the year. There is also a knockout mixed competition in the Summer. Don’t worry if your husband or partner is not a Grim’s Dyke member, we will find you a partner from amongst the men.

SOCIAL GOLF

Throughout the year a number of social competitions are organised. These are usually played in teams of mixed handicaps giving a chance to play with other members in a relaxed and sociable setting. The format for these frequent competitions varies with Texas Scrambles being very popular - they are often followed by a meal prepared by our excellent caterers.

Friendly matches are arranged against other local clubs, both during the week and at weekends. These matches are open to ladies of all handicaps and are played in teams of 4 pairs and the format is usually four ball better ball.

BEGINNERS

Our members will work with new players to obtain an official handicap index.

Beginners will soon get hooked on all the benefits of golf – learning a new skill, enjoying the fresh air, scenery and making new friendships.

You can start with a series of group lessons covering various aspects of the game and then as a new member you will be allocated a buddy to help you learn rules and etiquette. She will do her best to make sure you enjoy playing and meeting other members of different standards.

TOURS and TRIPS

The ladies enjoy an annual trip away for relaxed golf and evening fun.  The golf will be fun for all abilities and in the evenings there will be a meal and a chance to let your hair down and get to know everyone.

INVITATION DAY

Once a year the ladies invite friends to play at Grim’s Dyke in a team game followed by a delicious meal.
